Neurofeedback is also called neurotherapy. Normally, neurofeedback refers to methods like EEG neurofeedback, EEG-feedback or EEG-biofeedback. Although EEG neurofeedback is only one of the possible ways to 'give neurofeedback'. Neurofeedback in general is feedback of processes in the brain and can be done by all sorts of brain imaging techniques. There are different methods of neurofeedback. This page shows some of the practices in various countries in Europe and around the world. We also provide a summary of methods of diagnostics and treatment of the specific institute.

Review of 8 studies

You can find some links to studies on neurofeedback for specific deseases, deficits or peak performance. However, be aware of the fact that non of the studies which are named are considerd evidence of the working mechanism of neurofeedback. Most researchers in the medical field and neuroscientists state that there are too many methodological problems in neurofeedback research. One of the problems is the lack of placebo controlled studies.
Epilepsy
Epilepsy is defined as a recurrent tendency to have seizures. There are many forms of epilepsy. For example petit-mal (absences) and grand-mal.

What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback (NFB) is also named EEG-biofeedback, EEG neurotherapy, EEG-neurofeedback, MRI-neurofeedback, MEG-neurofeedback. EEG-neurofeedback was first described by Barry Sterman in 1969. Neurofeedback refers to a treatment or training of the brain by using operant conditioning techniques. Brain activity is measured by machine, man or animal and translated into understandable information. Most of the time, however, a computer brainscan device is connected to a computer, which functions as interface between trainee and his or her own brain. Recent years, a technique of operant conditioning of electrostatical brain activity is popular. Although theres also scepticism towards the technique of operant conditioning, many institutes and practices claim succesfull treatmen of various brain related deseases. © gezondnieuws 2009

Neurofeedback alternatives
The popularity of Neurofeedback is partially due to the fact that there are doubts on the safety of medication like Ritalin en Concerta. Neurofeedback is one of the better known alnternatives for treatment of adhd and add.

NFB diagnostics
Most neurofeedback therapists use extended EEG diagnostics, called qEEG for neurofeedback treatment protocols. Some however, claim that there is no need for extended brain diagnostics.
